This is a leadership role with responsibility over a small accounting department. As the Controller, your tasks will include planning and directing all accounting operational functions, managing the accumulation and consolidation of financial information for internal and external financial statements, assessing accounting and internal control systems, and guiding departmental staff. The Controller position is a full-time opportunity in the Columbia, South Carolina region. What you get to do every day - Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor on a monthly basis - Research, prepare and execute Finance Department initiatives such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as required - Oversee the activities of the finance department, such as accounts payable, billings collections, and payroll - Handle daily cash management and produce cash-flow reports, calculating cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals - Drive the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques to ensure the timely cash collection - Work closely with COO, executive team and partners to ensure that firm-wide operation is efficient and effective - Responsible for month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations G/L analysis - Present monthly financial reports to executive committee and partners - Evaluate, implement and streamline policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies- CPA/MBA preferred - Outstanding technology, analytics and management experience required - Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills - BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field - Well-founded grasp of revenue recognition - Proven knowledge of Microsoft Excel - Journal entries experience desired - Foundational knowledge in financial analysis - Project accounting experience preferred - Practical knowledge of fixed assets - General familiarity with general ledger - Financial statement preparation experience highly desired - Proficiency in month end closings - Seizes opportunities to produce results without direct supervision - Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) - Review deliverables of self and team to ensure that they meet client expectations - Strong attention to detail - Ability and willingness to meet business critical deadlines - Deep technical background in public accounting (GAAP) - Previous experience in public accounting is highly valued - Able to build and deliver effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds - 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 5+ years as a Controller preferred - Ability to work well in matrix organization and dealing with ambiguity - Hold self and others accountable for ensuring that results are achievedRobert Half Finance & Accounting, the world's leader in specialized financial staffing, provides exciting full-time opportunities in the areas of accounting, bookkeeping, finance, audit, taxation and more.
