The person in this position uses commonly-known concepts, practices, and procedures as well as more in-depth knowledge of select areas in computer engineering and applies those to develop and maintain Unitrends products. Principal Engineers have in-depth knowledge in many environments including but not limited to: UNIX, Linux, Windows, VMware, Hyper-V, virtualization, cloud, web, storage, applications, and databases. Essential Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities: Design, develop, and debug multiple system components from requirements definition through release to customers with an understanding of how these components interact with the system as a whole, driving requirements to other system componentsDetermine feature scope at a team level while leading teams to deliver quality code through design, coding, and testing phase within specified timelines, reporting team progress as required and escalating scheduling issues to management.Interact with external groups such as documentation, QA, and customer support and track dependencies for feature delivery at a release level.Drive patent definition and acquisition.Author white papers on topics relevant to Unitrends products.Direct involvement in resolving critical customer incidents.Provide consulting in areas of expertise.Modify existing software to correct errors, to adapt it to new hardware, or to upgrade interfaces and improve performance.Advise customer about or perform maintenance of software system.Consult with engineering staff to evaluate interface between hardware and software, develop specifications and performance requirements, or resolve customer problems.Other duties as assigned Position Qualifications: Ability to work directly with customers in a professional, experienced, and skilled mannerDemonstrated experience and knowledge of the following environments: UNIX, Linux, Windows, Netware, iSeries, virtualization, cloud, web, storage, applications, and databases.Demonstrated experience with servers, storage, and/or data protection.Excellent motivation and analytical skills with strong technical abilities. Education and / or Experience: Requires a Bachelors degree from an accredited college/institution in computer engineering/science or related technical field with at least 10 years of relevant experience /or an equivalent combination of skills, training, or knowledge.
