Job DetailsBSN Required BLS for Healthcare Providers required Current South Carolina RN license required 5-8 years experience required Job Summary: This position is responsible for overseeing/coordinating the placement of all admissions (elective and emergent) along with transfers in accordance withclinical standards and guidelines in an efficient manner based on current bed availability. Also responsible for ensuring the patient is admitted to the most appropriate bed available using criteria for admission and in collaboration with the admitting MD and Patient Placement. Specifically assigns placement of patients requiring a monitored bed while upholding the standards of the centralized bed management system. All team members are expected to be knowledgeable and compliant with Palmetto Health's values of compassion, dignity, excellence, integrity, and teamwork. Responsibilities: Contributes to patient safety by reporting safety concerns, errors, and near misses and by participating in campus improvement initiatives related to patient flow. Effectively communicates with all levels of the organization. Coordinates/oversees the placement of all admissions in accordance with the clinical standards and guidelines and in conjunction with Hospital Senior leadership. Rounds in ED, acute care, and procedural areas to form relationships and facilitate communication around patient flow. Collaborates with key campus stakeholders to include Hospital staff and physicians, case management, and patient placement to facilitate safe and efficient patient placement and flow. Assists with data collection from patient throughput systems and tools. Suggest improvements as necessary. Regularly reviews standardized patient flow metrics and teletracking data to adjust timely patient placement. Utilizes automated and manual information to forecast and facilitate bed availability. Identifies barriers to placement. Leads campus bed huddles daily. Assists with identification of nursing needs when necessary to identify and open surge areas to meet capacity demand. Engages in real time education of clinical and medical staff about best use of flow systems and technology. Organizes, prioritizes, and coordinates activities related to patient flow across the campus. Requirements: Education: BSN required. Experience: Minimum 5 years adult or pediatric nursing experience in an acute, emergency, or critical care setting required. Number and Type of Team Members Supervised: Licensed and non-licensed personnel. Licensure, Registry, or Certification: RN currently licensed in South Carolina. Current BLS (Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers) required prior to start date directly through the American Red Cross, the American Heart Association, or the military. (To register: Blended Learning or In Person BLS through the American Red Cross; or Classroom or Skills Session BLS through the American Heart Association. Certification must include an in-person skills session. ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred. Special Training: Proven excellent customer service skills. Proven ability to multitask. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with physicians and other health care professionals as well as patients and families. Demonstrated knowledge to triage patients to the appropriate level of care when planning bed placement or facilitating care at time of admission. Demonstrated ability to utilize Teletracking, Cerner, paging system, and others as applicable. Knowledge of Microsoft Office software strongly preferred. Team member must be able to endure extended periods of standing and ambulating long distances; pushing and pulling healthcare equipment, to include assisting with patient transfer and transport; must meet minimal lifting requirements.
